The following is a news release from Covenant Health:
Covenant Health will offer their Sixth Annual Free Colonoscopy Clinic to the public, in support of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, celebrated in March.
The clinic will be held on Saturday, March 23 at the sate-of-the-art Covenant Endoscopy Center, at 3610 21st street.
Colon cancer is one of the leading, preventable cancers by early-detection. Colorectal screening tests can detect tiny polyps, which are abnormal growths in both the rectum and colon. Although diagnosis is possible at an early stage, many people delay seeking medical treatment because of fear of embarrassment or limited financial resources.
Criteria for qualifying patients include:
- over the age of 50 or family history of colon cancer
- no previous colonoscopy
- must qualify for financial assistance
A community of Board-Certified Gastroenterologists will perform the exam. All materials, including anesthesia and prep kits, will be provided.
Those interested must call (806)725-7448. The deadline to apply for the screening is March 15 and space is limited. For additional information, call Debara Fox 725-0518.
