The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed a few basic details Thursday morning after a deadly accident overnight.

DPS said a pickup truck hit bicyclist along FM 2528 north of County Road 6100 in Northwest Lubbock County.  DPS said it happened at about 2:00 a.m.

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Late Thursday morning, DPS publicly identified the victim as The bicyclist has been identified as Mark Anthony Furgerson, 29, of Shallowater. 

After our initial story, DPS provided a brief written statement:

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) investigated a fatality crash in Lubbock County this morning.  The crash occurred at approximately 2 a.m. this morning on FM 2528, just north of CR 6100.  A  2006 Ford pickup was traveling south on FM 2528 and struck a bicyclist that was also traveling south on FM 2528.  The bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the pickup, Brice Aaron Hacker, 18, of Lubbock, was not injured. The crash is still under investigation and further information will be released.
