The following is an updated press release from New Mexico State Police:
On February 19, 2019, just after midnight, New Mexico State Police investigated a double fatal rollover crash on Interstate 40 around mile post 268 west of Santa Rosa.
The initial investigation indicated a 2011 Chevy truck was traveling east on Interstate 40 pulling a trailer, and for unknown reasons traveled into the center median and collided with the wire cable divider.
The unrestrained driver Thomas Kirk Eppers (39) of Lubbock, TX was ejected from the truck. Eppers and the restrained passenger Trent James Glaser (39) of Lubbock, TX were transported to an area hospital where they were both pronounced deceased.
Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor and seatbelts were not properly used by the driver. This crash is still under investigation by the New Mexico State Police. No additional information is currently available.
