The following is a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety:
The Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigation Division (DPS CID), were at a location at 39th and Uvalde, working a possible stolen vehicle at approximately 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
During this time a 2016 Ford Edge SUV, that had been reported stolen from Texas Tech University, pulled up to the location.
The stolen vehicle left the location and CID Agents followed the vehicle. The agents stopped the vehicle, but the vehicle fled the scene. The DPS Helicopter was up assisting with the operation and followed the vehicle to Johnson Control building located on North I-27.
Two suspects were seen exiting the stolen SUV by the DPS Helicopter. One suspect entered into the Johnson Control building area, and the other suspect remained outside.
Shortly after, CID Agents, Lubbock Crime Suppression Unit, Auto Task Force and DPS Troopers created a perimeter around the Johnson Control building area.
Employees were evacuated from the building by Johnson Control building Supervisors. Both suspects were apprehended at the Johnson Control building without incident.
Identification cards and other documents were recovered from the stolen suv. This stolen vehicle is under investigation by multiple agencies in numerous burglaries. A second stolen vehicle was recovered at 39th and Uvalde.
One of the suspects has been identified as Ismael Matthew Gonzales, 30, of Lubbock. At this time Gonzales has been charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading arrest and will be placed into the Lubbock County Detention Center.
The second suspect has not been charged at this time and the case remains under investigation.
