The Texas Department of Public safety has identified the driver who died in a crash just east of US 62/82 on FM 1585.
Eloy Arenas, 30, of Brownfield, was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was the driver and sole occupant of the Ford involved in the head-on collision around 6 p.m.
Samantha Cardenas, 18, of Lubbock, was transported to UMC in critical condition, the hospital confirmed Wednesday night.

” A head on collision occurred approximately at 6 pm involving a ford passenger car that was traveling west bound and crossed into the east bound lane and into the path of a Kia passenger car,” DPS officials said.
The crash is still being investigated.
“A second crash that has turned fatal is also being investigated at the intersection of FM 1585 and US 62/82,” DPS said.
