DPS investigates traffic accident near Slaton Saturday afternoon

Three people were transported to a Lubbock hospital following a traffic accident near Slaton Saturday afternoon, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. 

The accident was reported around 1:15 p.m. on U.S. Highway 84, approximately one mile west of All American Chevrolet. 


DPS said a semi-truck was traveling west on U.S. Highway 84 and collided into the rear of a Lincoln passenger car. The passenger car was being towed by a Chevrolet pickup truck. This caused passenger car to then crashed into the pickup truck.

DPS described the incident as a “two vehicle crash,” despite the fact a third vehicle was involved in the accident.   

The driver of the pickup truck, identified as Lewis Rodriquez, 53, of Lubbock was transported to University Medical Center with minor incapacitating injuries. 

The driver of the passenger car being towed was identified as Joel Garza, 46, of Lubbock. 

The second occupant in that vehicle was identified as Joel Garza, 46, of Lubbock.

Both men were also transported to University Medical Center with incapacitating injuries. 

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
