The Texas Department of Public Safety said a driver died after a crash Monday evening near Opdyke West. DPS said officers were called about 6:00 p.m. at FM 3261 and Cactus Drive.
DPS said, “A Ford Ranger traveling west bound on Cactus Road disregarded stop sign failing to yield right of way to a semi.”
DPS said the semi truck was going south on 3261 and hit the pickup truck on the passenger side. DPS said the driver of the pickup truck was taken to a hospital in Levelland where he was later pronounced dead.
Just before 10:00 p.m. DPS released the name of the pickup truck driver as Ronny Jay Wheeler, 26, of Levelland.
DPS said the semi driver, Kenton Wayne Williams, 37, of Rising Star, was not hurt.
