The Texas Department of Public Safety said a crash in Hockley County took the life of a Levelland man.

On Saturday, the DPS said Troopers were called at 5:30 a.m. to FM 1585 near FM 2646 southeast of Levelland.

DPS said a pickup traveling west on FM 1585 went off the roadway, over-corrected and rolled several times.  The driver, Cuauhtemoc Flores, 24, was ejected according to DPS.

Flores was taken to University Medical Center where he later passed away from his injuries.

The passenger was identified as Brittany Alvarado, 21, of Levelland.  She refused treatment, DPS said.

“The crash is being investigated as alcohol [related],” DPS said. “The main contributing factors is speed and no seatbelts.”

The investigation including a blood-test was still ongoing on Saturday.
