The Texas Department of Public Safety released information Thursday afternoon about a deadly crash at the intersection of FM 2641 and FM 179 near Shallowater. The crash happened at about 11:30 a.m.
DPS said, “A white Chevy pickup was traveling eastbound on FM 2641 and traveled into the path of a Chevy El Camino traveling southbound on FM 179.”
“The driver of the Chevy El Camino, Hershel Vernon Newman Jr., 68, of Shallowater was transported to UMC by ambulance,” DPS said.
Newman later died at University Medical Center according to DPS.
DPS also said the driver of the pickup, Wesley Wright, 22, of Levelland was transported to UMC by private vehicle. He suffered “incapacitating injuries.”
DPS said, “No charges have been filed and the crash is still under investigation.”
