Shallowater volunteer firefighters were called to the 700 block of 16th Street just after 11:00 a.m. Wednesday.  A duplex was reported to be on fire.

Other area VFD’s including Carlisle and New Deal were also called to help. The residence was described as a total loss.

According to a photojournalist on scene, a person who lived there said the fire seemed to have started with a couch along the backside of the residence.  This person said the flames were already climbing the outside wall when he saw it.

At this time there have been no reports of injuries.
