Sonny Dykes will be the next head football coach for the Southern Methodist University Mustangs, according to @SportsDayDFW and other media outlets.
Dykes is the son of former Texas Tech football coach Spike Dykes. Dykes was also a Red Raider baseball player from 1989 – 1993. From 2000 – 2006, Dykes was an assistant football coach at Texas Tech.
Dykes earned coach of the year in 2011 in the Western Athletic Conference.
Dfw.cbslocal.com reported that SMU will make the official announcement on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m.
Dykes will replace Chad Morris who left SMU to take a job with the Arkansas Razorbacks.
SMU will play the Frisco Bowl against Louisiana Tech on December 20.
