The following is a written statement from the Texas Department of Transportation:

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) began work this week on a project to widen Erskine Street, from Indiana to Quaker Avenue. Project contractor is Allen Butler Construction, Inc., of Lubbock.

The $4.08 million city of Lubbock funded project will widen the two-lane roadway to a five-lane facility with two lanes in each direction, a continuous turn-lane and a concrete road surface.

“Construction to make improvements to Erskine began Monday,” said Michael Wittie, P.E., TxDOT
Lubbock Area engineer and project manager. “The street has been closed to thru-traffic, but local traffic will continue to have access.”

Construction is scheduled to be completed in late-2018.
