Dustin Ray Leonard, 28, a former Slaton ISD teacher and coach, was indicted Wednesday by a federal grand jury.  Leonard was accused of enticement of a minor.

Leonard was arrested on state charges in May. He remained in the Lubbock County Detention Center on Thursday for a combination of federal and state charges. State prosecutors accused him of having an improper relationship between an educator and a student.

The federal indictment accused him of using a cell phone to solicit a student for sexual contact.

Slaton ISD said at the time of his arrest that he had been a teacher and coach for two years.  According to official state records, “Note: This individual is currently under review by the TEA Educator Investigations Division.”

The State Board of Education website said, “This notation on an educator’s certificate means that an allegation of misconduct is currently being investigated by Texas Education Agency staff.”

He remains certified as a teacher of “secondary social studies” for grades 6 through 12.
