The Texas Tech University College of Arts & Sciences and the Texas Tech Friends of the Libraries will host the exhibition ‘Ezio Gribaudo: A Lifetime in Art’ from Sept. 13 to Oct. 31 in the Dean’s Gallery Space at the Texas Tech University Library.
The exhibit will feature select paintings by Gribaudo from 1969-2016. Admission is free and open to the public.
The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 13 in the library’s Croslin Room with a brief presentation on Gribaudo, followed by the screening of the documentary ‘The White Magic of Ezio Gribaudo’ (2015) by Marco Agostinelli and Andrea Liuzza. A reception and viewing will follow in the Dean’s Gallery Space on the third floor.
The exhibition is curated by Victoria Surliuga, whose book ‘Ezio Gribaudo: The Man in the Middle of Modernism’ (2016) won first place for the Texas Tech President’s 2017-2018 Faculty Book Award. She is an associate professor of Italian Studies in the Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures. This is the second Gribaudo exhibition Surliuga has curated in Lubbock. The first one was ‘Ezio Gribaudo’s Theaters of Memory’ at the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts in 2016.
Gribaudo is a painter, sculptor and graphic artist whose award-winning production has been recognized with various international prizes, among which was the XXXIII Venice Biennale Prize (1966). Francis Bacon, Marcel Duchamp, Peggy Guggenheim and Joan Miró are just a few artists and personalities with whom Gribaudo has crossed paths as an art publisher. His work can be found in the permanent collections of many museums around the world, such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice.
Refreshments will be served at the opening. Parking is available in Lot R11 (band lot) on the south side of the Student Union Building.
