Police and Lubbock Fire Rescue returned late Thursday afternoon to the scene of a deadly house explosion in the Tech Terrace neighborhood. Federal ATF agents were also observed on scene.
Emergency responders were called to a home in the 2900 block of 21st Street Tuesday evening. There were multiple explosions and a fire according to LFR. Multiple explosions happened even after firefighters arrived on scene.
Lubbock Police said John Fleming, 72, was pronounced dead at the scene, and Rodica Gelca, 45, was later pronounced dead at University Medical Center.
There had been concern at the time of the explosion about a possible hazmat situation. But on Wednesday, LFR said its hazmat team did not find any contamination.
Fleming was a director and a consulting engineer for E2Amm LLC, an alternative energy development company.
