Lubbock Fire Rescue spent the whole day fighting flames at a cotton warehouse in the 1200 block of E. 40th Street.
A watchman for Goetz & Sons cotton linters reported the fire around 3:21 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Fire crews said the entire building was on fire. Massive flames could be seen reaching the roof of the warehouse, and initial reports indicated the roof may have caved in. Kevin Ivy, with Lubbock Fire and Rescue said crews were battling the fire with extra protective measures.
“We weren’t going to go in just because these structures are pretty thin with the way they are made and they can collapse pretty easy,” he said.
Division Chief Steve Holland said the building was full of motes, and they would be on scene for “a while.”
LP&L was called to the scene to ensure there were no live power lines.
No injuries have been reported, but avoid the area near E. 40th and Locust Avenue while LFR works to contain this blaze.
LFR fought a large warehouse fire in the same area in February 2018.
