Former Coronado High School art teacher Scott Riley Hall, 40, of Lubbock accepted a plea deal on Monday in federal court.
The official charge against him in the plea deal was use of interstate facilities to transport information about a minor. He admitted in court records that he was having a sexual relationship with one of his students who was 15-years-old.
In September, the girl’s mother suspected Hall was having a relationship. She confronted him, and he promised to stay away. The mom had previously allowed Hall to have a key to her apartment with the idea that Hall was going to look out for the girl and act as a father figure.
Investigators found out that Hall and the girl began a sexual relationship in August, court records said.
In his promise to stay away from the girl, Hall told the mom in a text message, “I truly wanted to be that Art Dad, but I let my care for her cross a line.”
“It was misguided affection,” Hall wrote to the mom.
Court records also included an email Hall sent to the girl. At point Hall wrote to her, “One of these days, we are going to spend hours watching movies and rolling around in bed. I love you!”
The girl wrote back to Hall, according to court records, “I love you too.”
Under the terms of the deal, if approved in court, Hall will be sentenced at a later date to no more than five years in federal prison.
