A former Lubbock ISD Police Officer sued the Lubbock ISD Police Chief this week in State District Court.
Tommy Williams claimed in his lawsuit that he was pressured to write tickets and make arrests in violation of state law. It did not give specific examples of arrests or tickets.
The lawsuit said Williams was accused of violating policies and procedures which led to his termination in November 2017.
Williams appealed his firing and lost, according to his lawsuit.
Williams claimed in his lawsuit that Chief Jody Scifres created a hostile work environment and fired him, not because of violations, but because of retaliation. The lawsuit said Williams was fired in violation of the Texas Whistleblower Act.
The lawsuit seeks $100,000.
Lubbock ISD has not filed its side of the story in court records. However, the video record of school board meeting on March 22, showed that Williams admitted to an incident in which he left his gun unattended in a chair as he went out to run an errand.
A representative for Williams told the school board it was a mistake, but it was not an offense that should result in firing.
