A grand jury in Hale County indicted former Abernathy Police Chief Cameron Wayne Bowman for theft.
Bowman was suspended and then subsequently fired from Abernathy in August of 2017.
In a letter to Bowman at the time, the city manager said, “This action is based on malfeasance, to wit: numerous unauthorized purchases on a city credit card.”
EverythingLubbock.com made an open records request and found that Bowman used a city credit card for, among other things, Houston Astros baseball game tickets, and a round of golf in Huntsville.
The Hale County District Attorney was not available Wednesday afternoon, and we were not able to ask what would be the maximum punishment if convicted.
