Six members of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity chapter at Texas Tech University were removed, the national organization announced.
The removal occurred after messages in a “frat chat” appeared on social media late Thursday night. Texas Tech called the messages “abhorrent” and “racially charged.”

Alex Baker, chief information officer for Tau Kappa Epsilon, released the following statement:
“After a swift, thorough investigation, Tau Kappa Epsilon and our Omicron-Rho chapter at Texas Tech have removed six members as of Friday, June 22. Their disgusting, hateful language doesn’t align with our values of love, charity and esteem and have no place in TKE.”
Texas Tech officials said the university is investigating the messages.
