A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for the majority of the South Plains through noon on Saturday.
Temperatures will be in the mid-30’s on Friday and Saturday with freezing low temperatures returning to the forecast beginning Friday morning. This will play a big role in our precipitation types over the next few days.
We are expecting a mix of rain, freezing rain and sleet overnight Thursday night and throughout the day on Friday. This will lead to a layer of ice on the roadways so make sure to take it slow and drive with caution.
Then beginning late Friday night into Saturday midday, the precipitation will transition into snow. Ice accumulations are estimated around half an inch with snow accumulations expected to reach up to six inches in certain locations.
Make sure to keep your pets and potted plants indoors to ensure they stay safe and healthy and to keep your sprinkler systems turned off to prevent adding ice to the roadways. It is also recommended to stay off the roadways if possible during these hazardous conditions – especially Friday night into Saturday midday.
Saturday evening we will see everything clear out with temperatures slowly warming up through the middle of next week.
