The nonprofit Friends of the Lubbock Public Library celebrates its Golden 50th Anniversary this year with a series of events for all ages. The festivities culminate Oct. 6-8, 2017 with a special appearance by Jessica Fellowes, author of “Downton Abbey: A Celebration.”

Niece of “Downton Abbey” creator and screenwriter Julian Fellowes, Ms. Fellowes has authored four companion guides to the award-winning TV series. Her latest installment, “Downton Abbey: A Celebration” features interviews, photographs, and a complete episode guide covering all six seasons of the hit show. Since its first episode aired on PBS in early 2011, Downton Abbey captivated a wide-ranging audience with its portrayal of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants in post-Edwardian England.

On Oct. 8, Mayor Dan Pope and the Lubbock City Council will proclaim “Friends of the Lubbock Public Library – 50 Years of Service” day. Ms. Fellowes will present Real Life Inspiration for Downton Abbey at a literary talk hosted by the Friends of the Library. Held at 3:00 p.m. at the Lubbock Municipal Auditorium in Lubbock, tickets are available to the public for $5 to $30 through Select-A-Seat. VIP seating includes a pre-event meet and greet with the author.

During her visit to Lubbock, Ms. Fellowes will give inspirational talks to Lubbock-area college and high school students. She will also be the guest of honor for the Friends of the Library 50th Anniversary Gala at Lubbock Women’s Club on Saturday, Oct 7, 6:00 pm reception and silent auction and 7:00 pm dinner. A limited number of table sponsorships are still available to local organizations and individuals.

Prior to Ms. Fellowes’ visit, the Friends of the Library and KTTZ will co-host a special screening of Downton Abbey at the Cactus Theater at 7:00 p.m. on Sept. 21. General admission tickets will be available to the public.

As part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations, the Friends of the Library is hosting its Fall Book Sale on Sept 22-25, 2017. Items for sale include fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, games, DVDs, CDs, and textbooks. Most items are $2 or less. For sale hours and locations, visit www.lubbockfol.org.
