The following is a news release from the Lubbock Area United Way:

April is Child Abuse Awareness Month. Go Blue Lubbock, a community-wide project to promote child abuse awareness and prevention, will kick off on April 5th. Child abuse rates in Lubbock County are one of the highest in the state of Texas with an average of 3 children becoming confirmed victims of abuse and neglect every day. The majority of these victims are under the age of 3.

Co-sponsored by the South Plains Child Abuse Coalition, Lubbock Area United Way, and the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, this is event is free and open to the public. Join with others in our community and commit to prevent child abuse by wearing blue (and telling people why) during the month of April. We can’t change results without first educating people about the problem and then seeking solutions within our community.
