Lubbock Habitat for Humanity (LHFH) has received a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation of West Texas to help fund the construction of a Habitat home.

Lubbock Habitat is a nonprofit organization serving the Lubbock area by constructing and then making available for purchase affordable housing for low to moderate income individuals. Since 1987 LHFH has built 137 homes, providing shelter for over 464 adults and children. Habitat welcomes all people to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with God’s people in need. The Community Foundation of West Texas grant will be used to help fund the construction of Habitat home. “Lubbock Habitat appreciates the Community Foundation of West Texas supporting it affordable housing construction program,” stated Marie Hanza, Executive Director, Lubbock Habitat for Humanity. “Lubbock Habitat will combine these funds with other donations to build a home which can be purchased by prospective Habitat homeowner,” Hanza concluded. Homeownership plays such an important role in a person’s live.

Statistics show that homeownership provides stability because an individual is secure in the knowledge of knowing where they will be living in the future. Children do better in school. Habitat homeowners become self-reliant because of the construction skills they learned building on their home or another prospective Habitat homeowner.

Established in 1981, the Community Foundation of West Texas is a regional philanthropic entity created by and for the people for the Texas South Plains region. The Community Foundation exists to improve the quality of life in this region by helping area donors to give in ways that make an enduring impact on their community. In 2015, the community Foundation and its affiliates awarded more than $1.7 million in grants and scholarships, funding projects of hundreds of nonprofit organizations, schools and government agencies.
