A 32-year-old man from Hobbs, New Mexico, was killed in a crash early Tuesday morning outside Midland.

Robert Calderon was pronounced dead at the scene after the 2:28 a.m. crash, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Another vehicle was towing a semi-trailer eastbound on State Highway 158. According to DPS, Calderon was driving a truck and was traveling behind the semi-trailer.

“(Calderon’s vehicle) failed to control its speed and struck the rear end on vehicle #2’s trailer,” DPS said.

Calderon was not wearing a seatbelt, according to DPS. The weather was clear, and roads were dry.
