Lubbock Fire Rescue evacuated five homes and one business Wednesday morning because of a gas leak.  LFR estimated 10 to 15 people were evacuated.

LFR received a 9-1-1 call at 9:45 a.m. from the 1800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.  A two-inch gas line was damaged by a crew digging in the area.

A spokesman for the city said, “It was a City of Lubbock crew. Preliminary reports indicate that the gas lines were marked inaccurately.”

Traffic was blocked along 19th Stret at MLK.

Just before 11:00 a.m., LFR said the line would be repaired within two hours and the evacuation could end after that time.
