Intersection, 114th and University Ave, closed for a time due to armed man

The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, Lubbock Police, EMS and at least one county constable responded to the reports of a man with a gun near 114th Street and University Avenue. 

LCSO then took the lead on the call which came in at about 11:44 a.m.


Officers blocked the intersection.  About 30 minutes after the incident began, LCSO provided an update saying a man shot himself.  

It is not the policy of EverythingLubbock.com to cover suicide or attempted suicide. However, there is an exception for a public impact such as the closure of a major intersection.  

The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement around 5 p.m. Wednesday:

On Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at approximately 11:45, Lubbock County Sheriff’s deputies
responded to 114th and University in reference to a check welfare. The individual was
pronounced deceased at the scene. We are currently not looking for any suspects on this case. At this time, we are not releasing the name of the decease pending family notification. Our condolences go out to the family.
