The Junior League of Lubbock (JLL) recently announced its selection of six Lubbock-area nonprofit organizations to receive $10,000 in grant funding. The funds were made available through the league’s Community Assistance Grant program, which was established to redistribute fundraising dollars back into the community.
“The success of our fundraising events, including Holiday Happening, Partner Card and Touch-A-Truck, allows us to distribute funds back into our community through Community Assistance Grants,” said JLL Community Impact Vice President Kathy Oaks. “We are so thrilled to support the work of our valuable community partners through these grants.”
The recipients of the fall 2018 Community Assistance Grants are:
- Children’s Advocacy Center, $2,500 for Play It Safe, a child abuse awareness and prevention program that incorporates age-appropriate scripts and movies to teach children how to reduce their risk of sexual and physical abuse and sexual assault;
- Children’s Hope, $1,000 for emergency building repairs and maintenance;
- Lubbock Arts Alliance, $2,300 for its art therapy project in conjunction with the Center for Superheroes, which provides mental health therapy to children in the foster care system who are victims of abuse and neglect;
- Open Door, $2,000 to replace the transmission on their van, which provides daily transportation for those experiencing homelessness to medical appointments, interviews and employment, locations to acquire IDs and birth certificates, and more;
- Ronald McDonald House Charities, $1,000 for elevator repairs;
- Sondra’s Song, $1,200 for their emergency grocery fund for young adults who have aged out of the foster care program.
“The Junior League of Lubbock hopes these funds will foster new projects and partnerships in our community and strengthen the work already being done by our local nonprofit organizations,” Oaks said.
Community Assistance Grants are awarded biannually to nonprofit agencies in Lubbock and its surrounding counties. Funds awarded are determined by the JLL Community Impact Council with approval by the Executive Board of Directors. Applications are reviewed based on merits of the project as they pertain to the JLL mission and focus area. For more information, visit www.jllubbock.com.
