A Lubbock jury found Lexi Isaacks, 23, not guilty of intoxication manslaughter Friday for the death of Alex Flores, 48.
Isaacks was 20 in December of 2014 when her SUV crashed into Flores’ car at the intersection of Marsha Sharp Freeway and Upland Avenue. Flores was stopped at a red light when Isaacks crashed into him from behind.
A police officer testified that Isaacks failed multiple items in a field sobriety test.
In her SUV, police testified that there were five opened cans of Coors beer, a Jack Daniels box, an empty bottle of Coors light, an empty box of Coors light, and an unopened can of beer.
The prosecution told the jury that Flores is not with us because Isaacks caused his death. The defense claimed that Isaacks was under the legal limit for blood alcohol at the time of the crash.
The defense also said it’s the prosecution’s fault for not bringing a better case.
During the trial, it was pointed out that Isaacks was under the age of 21 but still admitted to drinking before the crash.
A DPS investigator said she was more than twice the legal limit.
A photojournalist in the court room said the Flores family reacted with shock to the verdict.
