The man who had been the subject of a manhunt in Lamb County as a wanted sex offender in June admits to having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl.
Jimmy Kit Fields, 37, took a plea deal on Monday in federal court for enticement of a minor.
In March, the girl’s father learned that Fields gave her a cell phone. The father reported it to the sheriff’s office in Roosevelt County, New Mexico where the girl lived.
In May, the girl went missing. When she returned she at first denied having done anything with Fields. The sheriff’s department searched her Facebook page and discovered sex talk between her and Fields. The girl then admitted to having sex with him on four occasions.
On June 1, the Littlefield Police Department requested the public’s help to find Fields because he was the subject of an arrest warrant in Roosevelt County. He was found and arrested in Olton. Fields has been locked up since that time.
Because Fields and the girl used the Internet to talk about sex, a federal charge could be filed. The status of the Roosevelt County case was not immediately available.
If a federal judge accepts the plea deal, then Fields will be sentenced at a later date to no less than 10 years in federal prison.
