A Texas mother shared her story of losing her child and the dangers of drowning at a special event Saturday here in Lubbock
The “Lifeguard Your Child” event was held at the Talkington YWCA at Sun ‘N Fun Aquatics.
Tori Welch lost her daughter Shaelynn, 4, on Mother’s Day in 2017.
Welch teamed up the Cooks Children’s Hospital and joined their “Lifeguard your Child” campaign.
She said the best way to prevent a drowning is to watch your child just like a lifeguard would.
The campaign is asking Texas families to commitment to no distractions during pool time, including no cell phones and chit chat.
Free life jackets were given away, along with swim lessons and infant swimming rescue lessons at the event.
