A Littlefield man was killed Thursday morning in a crash in Gaines County, according to a statement from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
DPS identified the victim as Xavier Hernandez, 25.
DPS said Hernandez was driving a pickup truck north along FM 1788 north of Seminole. DPS said the pickup entered the southbound lane and hit an 18-wheeler.
Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the 18-wheeler, Julio C. Olivares, 48, of El Paso, was taken to Seminole Memorial Hospital for “non-incapacitating” injuries.
As to why the pickup truck was in the wrong lane, a DPS crash summary did not say.
DPS said both drivers wore seat belts. The speed limit was listed as 75 miles per hour. Conditions were dry and clear.
