Longtime State Representative Delwin Jones passed away, according to his son Lanny Jones. He was 94 years old.
Jones represented District 83 for a number of years. The seat is now held by Dustin Burrows and had been held for a time by Charles Perry.
Jones first went to the state legislature from 1964 – 1973. He then returned from 1989 – 2011.
Services were still pending as of Wednesday afternoon. Burial will be at the Austin State Cemetery.
Burrows said, “Delwin Jones was a true West Texan. As a Legislator, his commitment to his constituents in his District was extraordinary. Delwin was a remarkable public servant and decorated war veteran who worked hard to make Texas a better place to live and work. Elisabeth and I offer our condolences and prayers to Delwin’s family.”
Perry said, “I was saddened to hear about the passing of Delwin Jones today. Delwin spent a lifetime serving his community through military service and as a state representative. We will forever be grateful for his efforts to make Texas a better place to live, work and raise a family. My heart and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.”
Plains Cotton Growers said, “We are sad today to hear of the passing of Delwin Jones, who served Texas and his constituents well for many years in the state legislature. He was an original member of PCG and a steadfast supporter of agriculture. Our deepest condolences to his family.”
