The following is a news release from the Lubbock Police Department:

Kivalier Russell, 22, is now in the Lubbock County Detention Center charged with aggravated assault in connection to a May 13th shooting in the 1800 block of Buddy Holly Avenue.

An arrest warrant for the aggravated assault was issued last Friday. On Monday, May 21st, Russell turned himself in around 7:30 p.m. Russell was also arrested for two other outstanding warrants not related to this case.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, May 13th, Lubbock Police officers responded to reports of multiple gunshots in the area of 1800 Buddy Holly. While officers were on scene, a 25-year-old gunshot victim with serious but non-life threatening injuries arrived at University Medical Center.

Through the initial investigation, it appears two groups of people got into a physical altercation. After the fight was broken up, one group got into a vehicle to leave the area. At that point, it appears someone from the other group began shooting at the vehicle, striking a back passenger.

This case remains under investigation, and more arrests connected to this shooting are possible.
