The following is a news release from the Lubbock Police Department:
The Lubbock Police Department Accident Investigation Unit is investigating an incident at 112thStreet and Chicago Avenue that sent an 18-year-old male to the hospital with serious injuries.
On Monday, April 30th, at approximately 7:40 p.m., officers responded to the area in reference to an injured male on Chicago Avenue. First responders quickly arrived, and the male was taken by ambulance to Covenant Medical Center.
Due to the seriousness of the injuries, Accident Investigation officers responded to the scene to begin an investigation. Preliminary information indicates the 18-year-old male was hanging on the back of a SUV traveling on Chicago and fell off.
Passengers of the SUV stayed with the 18-year-old while the driver left to get help. The driver then returned to the scene with additional family members.
As of Tuesday morning, the 18-year-old is still in the hospital with serious injuries.
This case remains under investigation.
