The following is a news release from the Lubbock Police Department:
On Thursday, February 28th, Lubbock Police Department crash investigators plan to temporarily shut down several roads in order to continue multiple crash investigations.
Starting at 9:15 a.m., the entire intersection of Slide Road and 13th Street will be shut down as investigators map the area for the fatal February 24th crash. All southbound traffic on Slide will be diverted east or west onto 11th Street. Southbound drivers can access businesses at 13th and Slide by going west on 11th Street and taking Albany Avenue to 13th Street. Northbound traffic on Slide will be diverted east to 16th Street to Vicksburg Avenue and then west onto 11th Street to Slide.
This closure is expected to last until 11 a.m., and drivers are encourage to avoid the area until the roadway is back open. LPD would also like to remind drivers to be mindful of the lower residential street speed limits as they are diverted during the closure.
Once investigators are finished with this intersection, they will move to Quaker and 32nd Street to map that area for a February 21st crash involving a Hummer that crashed into a home. The entire intersection of Quaker and 32nd Street will be shut down. North and southbound traffic on Quaker will be diverted to 31st and 33rd Streets. This closure is expected to last from approximately 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
At approximately 1 p.m., investigators will shut down the area of 8100 19th Street near Alcove Avenue to continue the investigation of the February 12th fatal crash involving a bus and pedestrian. Eastbound 19th Street may temporarily be shut down to one lane while investigators work in the area.
Times of the closures may vary as investigators move to each crash scene. The Lubbock Police Department will post updates on the progress of each closure on the LPD Facebook and LPD Twitter pages. Investigators understand these closures may cause an inconvenience for drivers, and they’re appreciative of the community’s patience as they continue a crucial part of these investigations.
