The following is a new release from the Lubbock Police Department:

Early Sunday morning, Lubbock Police Department detectives arrested a 15-year-old male for the murder of 18-year-old Abraham Herrera Jr.

On July 13th, at approximately 11:50 p.m., the Lubbock Police Department received reports of shots fired in the 300 block of 79th Street. Responding officers located a male gunshot victim outside a home with life threatening injuries.

The victim, who was identified as Herrera, was taken by ambulance to University Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased.

Detectives with the Persons Crimes Unit began investigating immediately, and within 24 hours a suspect was identified.

The 15-year-old male was later arrested and charged with murder.

Multiple units assisted with this investigation including the LPD Special Operations unit and the Lubbock Texas Anti-Gang Center (TAG).

This case remains under investigation by detectives with the Persons Crimes Unit.
