A Lubbock Police Department pickup truck was involved in an accident Friday morning at 19th Street and Kewanee Avenue.

The LPD pickup and an SUV collided. A photojournalist at the scene said police closed the eastbound lanes of 19th Street after the accident.

Less than an hour after the accident, Lubbock Police released the following statement:

At approximately 10:30 a.m., a Lubbock Police Officer notified dispatch that he had just been involved in a collision with a SUV in the 6300 block of 19th Street.

The officer driving a marked LPD pickup truck was traveling westbound on 19th Street. A 21-year-old male driving a Chevy Tahoe attempted to pull out of a business driveway on the north side of 19th Street. As the Tahoe turned left on 19th Street across the westbound lanes, he struck the LPD pickup truck.

The officer had minor injuries and was taken to UMC by another police officer. The 21-year-old male refused treatment by paramedics and was written a citation for failure to yield the right of way.
