Lubbock Power & Light said power should be restored to all customers as of 9:02 p.m. Tuesday after several hours of on-and-off-again service.
LP&L was first contacted about the outages around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, an employee said.
Power was temporarily restored to all customers shortly before 8 p.m., but an issue with a substation led to another outage across South Lubbock that lasted for about an hour.
The outages were related to substation equipment issues at the Chalker substation, located at 73rd Street and Utica Avenue. Lubbock Power & Light vehicles were seen working around 7 p.m. at the substation.
However, an exact cause has not been identified, Lubbock Power & Light said.
A total of 5,072 customers were affected, LP&L said.
LPD said officers were redirecting traffic at multiple major intersections, including:

69th & Slide

74th & Quaker
82nd & Frankford
82nd & Indiana
82nd & Milwaukee
82nd & Quaker

Lubbock Power & Light is investigating the cause, LPD said.
LP&L released the following statement on Facebook earlier this evening:
LP&L crews are on their way to restore service to customers in southwest Lubbock. If you are a customer experiencing a loss of service in the southwest portion of town, please know we are aware of the outage, and we thank you for your patience as we work to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.
