LP&L to Settle Out-of-Court for 2015 Crash

The Lubbock City Council on Thursday will vote on an out-of-court settlement between Lubbock Power & Light and Jillian Standley.

Standley sued after a March 2015 crash between her car and a pickup truck operated by an LP&L employee.  The lawsuit said the truck backed into her car at 92nd Street and University Avenue.

The lawsuit said Standley suffered broken bones in her left hand and left elbow.  It also said she suffered injuries to her face, neck and back.

The city council’s agenda said the original lawsuit was for $450,000.  The settlement is for $120,000 and has already been approved by the Electric Utility Board. Council approval is still required.

“The City did not contest liability for the accident but vigorously contested the amount of damages sought by Plaintiff,” the agenda said.

In the out-of-court settlement, it said the city does not admit wrongdoing.
