Lubbock Christian is excited to announce the hiring of its next head girls’ basketball coach, Matt Moore, from Dallas, Texas.
Coach Moore was born in Midland, and is excited to return to West Texas and be a part of the great tradition of Lady Eagles basketball. “Lubbock Christian has an outstanding reputation within the state, not just for excellence on the court, but for the quality and character of its students,” Moore said. “We’re committed to carrying on the legacy of success that exists here .”
No stranger to success, Coach Moore’s teams have made the TAPPS playoffs in 4 out of his 5 seasons as a head coach or varsity assistant, and has coached over a dozen players who have gone on to play collegiate sports. He was also part of a state championship winning team as player in high school. But more than just wins and losses, Moore is passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people. “Before I got into coaching, I spent several years as a youth minister in a local church,” Moore said, “and I’ve always felt that basketball is one of the best ways to help grow student athletes into Godly young women.”
Coach Moore is a graduate of Dallas Christian College, and received his master’s degree from Dallas Baptist University. He and his wife Katelin, who is an elementary school teacher, have been married 8 years.
In addition to Coach Moore, Lubbock Christian School also welcomes Coach Katie Turnipseed. Katie is a recent graduate of Lubbock Christian University, where she received her Bachelors of Science in secondary education with a specialization in composite science. While attending LCU, Katie was involved in numerous activities as well as a basketball coach for LCS this past season. Katie is extremely excited about returning to Lubbock Christian School as a science teacher and assistant girls coach.
“Here at Lubbock Christian School we are working to integrate faith and work and yearning to see everything through the lens of the Gospel so that we can do all things associated with our sports in a way that brings glory to the one true God. We see sports as a training ground for boys and girls to give a total release of all that they have toward becoming Christ-like and furthering His Kingdom.
In light of this mission we are excited to add Coach Moore and Coach Turnipseed to our staff as high level classroom instructors and high level coaches. Coach Moore’s high level experiences both as a player and a coach along with his passion for Godly leadership helped separate him from the pack in this process and he will be a great leader for our girls’ basketball program.
With Coach Turnipseed we were fortunate to have her join our girls’ basketball staff last year and we are so impressed by her ability to lead our girls athletically, academically, spiritually. Adding these two to our staff is a blessing to our school academically, athletically, and our student-athletes will have two additional outstanding spiritual mentors to assist them in their walk. They will fit in well with our staff in our desire to make an impact for the Kingdom through sports!” states LCS Athletic Director, Chris Softley.
