Lubbock County and NAAG Pathology Labs P.C. made a statement Tuesday about a backlog of open cases at the Lubbock County Medical Examiner’s Office.
On September 24, Lubbock County publicly announced that Dr. Sam Andrews was named as the next Chief Medical Examiner. Andrews was named “in response to the retirement of Dr. Sridhar Natarajan,”

After officially taking Office on October 1, 2018, Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Andrews began an audit of all cases at the Lubbock County Medical Examiner’s Office to review any “open” cases in the medical examiner system. Because of the complexity in forensic pathology services (e.g. neuropathology, histology, toxicology), it is not uncommon for cases to take months to close. With the full support of the County, an action plan is being developed to address a backlog. Dr. Andrews looks forward to the implementation of a process that quickly brings cases to a close. The Medical Examiner’s Office is committed to helping the public, and to the timely completion of reports and documents required by family members and community stakeholders.
