A Lubbock County Constable was arrested by Lubbock Police Sunday morning and charged with driving while intoxicated.
Carelton “C.J.” Jenson Peterson, 40, was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center just after 8:00 a.m. and was released on bond around 12:45 p.m.
According to the Lubbock Police Department incident report, an officer was called to the scene of a traffic accident in the 5400 block of 50th Street around 3:30 a.m.
A witness to the accident told police a white pickup truck was speeding in the 5200 block of 50th Street.
The witness described a loud boom after the truck struck a curb, drove into a parking lot and then struck two parked vehicles.
The report stated the officer then performed a series of sobriety tests on Peterson.
Based on the results of the test and the officer’s observations, Peterson was arrested.
The report said Peterson refused to submit a blood specimen at the scene.
Peterson was placed in handcuffs and was taken to University Medical Center where a Blood Search Warrant was completed, signed by a judge, and then executed.
Peterson was then taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center.
He was released early Sunday afternoon on a $1,500 bond.
Peterson is the Lubbock County Constable for Precinct 4.
He took office in January 2015. He’s current term will expire at the end of 2020.
