Lubbock County Democrats recently announced a June 11 special election to choose a new local chair.

“A special election is called due to the County Chair that was elected during the primary election cannot assume that position,” the local Democrats said on Facebook.

“Any adult, Democrat, Lubbock County resident can run for the position.”

In the March 6 primary, Stuart Williams ran unopposed for the position. Williams is listed on his own Facebook page as a field organizer for the Beto O’Rourke campaign.

It was known even before the primary (but after it was too late to remove a name from the ballot) that Williams would stay with the campaign and resign as chairman.

The election will be in the Lubbock Democratic Party Headquarters, 2809 74th St suite A.  It starts at 7:00 p.m.

The Democrats said on Facebook, “Anyone can attend and speak at the meeting but only the precinct chairs that won the election for their precinct during the primaries are allowed to vote.”
