A routine check of court records on Tuesday revealed that Dr. Brianne Williams accepted a plea deal on Friday for obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or deception.
Williams admitted that in March and May, she used pre-signed prescription forms from another doctor to get Hydromorphone.
“Hey, friend. I have made some big mistakes,” Williams wrote to the other doctor in an iMessage. “I apparently took one of your triplicates.”
The word triplicate is a nickname for prescriptions that must be filled out with three copies at the same time. The other doctor was questioned by federal investigators with the Drug Enforcement Administration.
The other doctor told officials that she did not authorize Hydromorphone for Williams.
Williams admitted that she was able to pick up prescriptions from three different pharmacists on different dates by stealing another doctor’s prescription pad.
Federal court records said she had a previous history with abusing controlled substances.
If her plea deal is accepted, she will be sentenced later to no more than four years in prison.
Separately, the Texas Medical Board on Friday, October 26 announced the temporary suspension of Dr. William’s license to practice medicine.
EverythingLubbock.com reported the suspension when it was announced, but a copy of the official TMB order was not available online at the time.
Now it is available. The order said Dr. Williams admitted in early August to using heroin intravenously “for the past three weeks.”
“She admitted to using heroin five (5) times a day and was experiencing withdraws,” the TMB order said.
Dr. Williams was fired from her job at a Lubbock health clinic in June, the TMB order said.
