Lubbock Driver Involved in Crash in Ector Co., DPS Says

The Texas Department of Public Safety said a failure to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign led to a deadly crash early Tuesday morning.

DPS on Thursday released details of the crash which was west of Odessa in Ector County.

DPS said Gilbert Chavez-Delagarza, 72, of Seguin was driving a pickup truck westbound on State Highway 302.  DPS said Randall L. Gleckler, 58, of Lubbock was driving a Mack truck northbound on FM 866.

DPS said Gleckler had a stop sign.

DPS said, “[the Mack truck] failed to yield the right of way at the stop intersection, attempted to cross State Highway 302 and collided with [the pickup truck].”

Chavez-Delagarza was pronounced dead at the scene.  Gleckler was taken to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa for treatment of his injuries.

Conditions were dry and clear.  Both drivers were using seat belts, according to DPS.

Note: EverythingLubbock has requested more information from DPS concerning the crash summary.  The summary does not say if the Mack truck disregarded the stop sign, came to a rolling stop, or made a full stop before driving into the intersection.
