The following is a news release from Lubbock Fire Rescue & Battery Joe:

Daylight Saving Time will be upon us November 4th. Time change is a great opportunity to remind people of many routine things that they normally forget to do such as replace old smoke alarm batteries. This is an extremely important piece of maintenance that many people never really think about. A few moments of time and a fresh 9 volt battery can save a family from an unthinkable catastrophe.

As a part of your local fire department and Battery Joe’s commitment to our community and the wellbeing of those we serve we have put in place a program to make this small but important task just a little easier. Starting on November 1st Battery Joe will give away over 1100, free 9v batteries for smoke alarms. We will offer these at all Battery Joe Locations. There is no purchase required all someone has to do is just stop in and ask. For people who are physically unable to do this for themselves the Lubbock fire department has generously offered to come and install the batteries for free just call 806-775-2635.

To help raise awareness we would like to ask you to help get the word out. People need to understand how important it is to change their smoke alarm batteries and how easy it is to get free batteries! Together we may help save a home or a life.
