The following is a news release from Lubbock Habitat for Humanity:

Lubbock Habitat will dedicate another home during a ceremony on Sunday, April 15, 2018, 2:00 pm at 2405 Avenue L.  At the dedication, Habitat will present the keys to Gabby Robles, who will purchase the home from Habitat.  Happy State Bank is sponsoring this home dedication.

Through donations of money, materials, and volunteer labor, Lubbock Habitat is able to build the home and then sell it an affordable price.  Robles will purchase the home with an affordable mortgage.  Her mortgage payments will be used to build more Habitat homes.  As a requirement of the program, Robles, completed 500 hours of “sweat equity”, working on her home, the homes of others, and attending homeowner education classes.

“It’s exciting that I am going to be able to move in soon.  I am thankful for this opportunity and for all of the donors and volunteers that have helped me reach this goal,” stated Robles.  “My boys are excited to have a yard to play in”,  Robles concluded.

Construction costs for the home were sponsored by a grant from the Helen Jones Foundation.  The Byron Martin Technology Center’s Construction Technology Class started work on this home as part of their class work and worked on the home throughout the school year.  Once the school year was completed, the home was moved to its current location where a variety of Habitat volunteers finished construction on the home.

The dedication is open to the public.  At the end of ceremony, supporters are invited to tour the home.

Individuals interested in becoming a Habitat homeowner should call the Habitat office at 806-763-4663 and asked that their name be placed on the mailing list to receive information for the next open application period.
