The following is a news release from Lubbock Habitat for Humanity:

Lubbock Habitat for Humanity (LHFH) will host a Homeowner Workshop on Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at Prosperity Bank’s Conference Center Annex, 1401 Avenue Q. Doors will open at 8:30 am.  The workshop will provide information concerning LHFH’s Partnership and Homeownership program. There is no charge to attend.

No childcare will be provided. Attendees should be prepared to stay for the entire three hours and bring photo identification.

The workshop is an opportunity for low to moderate income individuals/families to learn about the LHFH partnership and homeownership program.  Attendees will learn about several aspects of the program, and receive an information packet.

At the end of the workshop, participants will receive a workshop certificate that must be turned in as part of a completed application.

Acceptance into the program is based on three criteria, need, ability to pay an affordable mortgage, and willingness to partner with Habitat.

“This is where the process of becoming a Habitat homeowner begins,” said Executive Director Marie Hanza. “During the workshop attendees learn about the LHFH program.  Then LHFH volunteers work with attendees to assist them in understanding how to complete the application,” she said. “I believe there are a lot of individuals out there who qualify to purchase a home through LHFH, they just don’t realize it,” Hanza said.

Habitat has begun construction of homes in  a new addition made possible by a grant from the Talkington Foundation.  Located at 404 N. Guava,  Phase One of the addition has twenty-two (22) lots available for construction.
