The Lubbock High School Performing Arts Department opens the 2017-2018 season this week with the theater production of “You Can’t Take It With You,” a comedic play written by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart.
The play originally premiered on Broadway in 1936 and won the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The film adaptation directed by Frank Capra received the Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director of 1938. The story follows the quirky Sycamore family and their eccentric patriarch, Grandpa Vanderhof.
Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. All performances will be in the historic and recently renovated Lubbock High School auditorium, 2004 19th St.
The show times are Thursday, October 19; Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 21 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, October 22 at 2:30 p.m. An opening night reception, “Dinner with the Sycamores,” will precede the Thursday night performance at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium lobby.
